Let’s Go Back To Booing

There was a time when I was watching sports when I would hear the fans Boo the Other Team or Boo A Player On The Other Team (usually a very good player on the other team) and I felt badly for the Other Team or the Very Good Player.

I would think to myself, “That’s not Nice”.

Not Nice was Very Nice compared to what the fans of today are doing...

One of the biggest storylines during the just completed NBA Finals was the animosity and vitriol directed at Golden State's players from the Boston Celtics' fanbase. The majority of animosity was directed at Draymond Green, with "F*** you Draymond" chants raining in from the stands each home game in Boston.

I used to think this kind of awful language could be traced back to Rett Butler’s, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn". I thought, maybe if he has not said that, the Boston Fans would not have said, "F*** you Draymond".

Now I think they would have “progressed” to this level of Awful on their own without Rhett’s permission. It’s called “progress”...Or is it?

Would I kid u?

Lagniappe: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" is a line from the 1939 film Gone with the Wind starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh. The line is spoken by Rhett Butler (Gable), as his last words to Scarlett O'Hara (Leigh), in response to her tearful question: "Where shall I go? What shall I do?" Scarlett clings to the hope that she can win him back. This line is slightly different in Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel Gone with the Wind, from which the film is derived: "My dear, I don't give a damn."

Ya Gotta Be Smart To Be A Meter Reader...Or do you?

The other day I looked up from my computer and saw something I thought was strange going on outside my front window. Since I am me, usually after I notice something (remember I am The Noticer) I often investigate what I noticed to see if I wasted my time bothering to notice.

This notice was a doozy. I got to watch a Mental Midget in action!...

Ø The Water Company’s Meter Reader was going through our little neighborhood reading our water meters.

Ø Our Meter Reader’s routine was to park his car and walk to 3 to 4 meters and read the meters and return to his car and move his car up a few houses and get out of his car and read a few more meters and repeat this process over and over.

Ø I guess he was trying not to get to the point where he had parked his car and had walked a long way and then he would turn around and find that his car was a long way back at his starting point and he would then have to walk that long way to get back to his car.

Ø Heck he may even have feared that he might not be able to find his car way back there where he started somewhere back there.

The problem with this thinking on the part of our Mental Midget Meter Reader is our street is a circle (see map below). If he had just left his car and not walked back to his car over and over he would have found his car back where he left it at the first house he had read at the start of his Meter Reading Trek.

I wonder if he ever figured out what I just explained to you or did he just head to his next assigned neighborhood thinking, “I sure am smart! Once again I read my assigned meters and did not lose my car!”

I think I am smart enough to be a Meter Reader.

Would I kid u?

California Court Rules That Bumblebees Bees Are Fish

This Is a Fish

This Is a California Fish

This decision comes after a lengthy legal dispute to list four species of bumblebees as endangered under the California Endangered Species Act.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — You’ve seen bumblebees buzzing by, collecting pollen from flowers to make honey. But, have you ever seen one underwater?

Probably not. However, a California appeals court says they don’t have to be underwater to be legally considered fish in the state.

The ruling comes after a legal dispute that started in 2019 between the California Fish and Game Commission and major agricultural groups. The Commission wanted to list four species of bumblebees as endangered species. Those species are the Crotch, Franklin, Suckley, and Western bumblebees.

Their reason for listing bees under “fish?” The Commission says bees are invertebrates, falling under the California Endangered Species Act’s (CESA) definition of fish. But, agricultural groups that include almond, citrus, and cotton growers disagree, calling it a violation of CESA.

During the first trial in 2020, the court ruled in favor of these agricultural groups, finding CESA doesn’t protect all invertebrates. After the ruling, the Commission took bumblebees off the list and appealed the court’s decision.

Now, the Court of Appeal of the State of California’s Third Appellate District has reversed the decision, disagreeing with the original ruling about CESA’s definition of a fish.

“We next consider whether the Commission’s authority is limited to listing only aquatic invertebrates. We conclude the answer is, ‘no,’” the ruling reads.

The appeals court concluded CESA’S definition of fish is a “term of art,” and isn’t limited to aquatic species. It goes on to say the Commission may list any invertebrate as an endangered or threatened species.

The court also noted animals like frogs fall under CESA’s definition of fish, as it includes amphibians.

************

Invertebrates are animals without a backbone or bony skeleton. Invertebrates are by far the largest group in the animal kingdom: 97% of all animals are invertebrates. Are we on the verge of declaring 97% of all animals Endangered?

No, I’m not saying the above bolded question makes sense. It’s just that the above article has me so confused I don’t know what I used to know I knew about much of anything.

This news article was posted on the Internet by a Tampa, Florida TV Station. I wonder if the Sane People in California (provided there are still Sane People in California) are desperately hoping that no one in the rest of the Good Ole USofA is aware of what’s going on in California.

We Ought To Only Go Out Of Our Houses at Night Because the Sun Is Bad For Us...Or is it?

Some of you think I make things up and put them in my Blog. These Some of You feel this way because I do make things up to put into my Blog. Be advised, that I do not make everything up that I put into my Blog. Because of this feeling some of you have, I often insert Internet Links in my Blog in an attempt to prove that I did not make up what you are presently reading. Please do not feel any obligation to read all of the links I furnish. That would be a lot of reading and you might start to hate me. Don’t hate me! I mean well.

Is Melanoma Caused by Too Much Sunlight?

or

Is Melanoma Caused by Too Little Sunlight?

Despite all the bad press linking sun exposure to skin cancer, there’s almost no evidence at all to support it. There is, however, plenty of evidence to the contrary. Over the years, several studies have confirmed that appropriate sun exposure actually helps prevent skin cancer. Melanoma occurrence has been found to decrease with greater sun exposure and can be increased by sunscreens.

Recap of the above paragraph...

Ø The Sun causes skin cancer...Used to be true but is no longer true.

Ø Sun exposure actually helps prevent skin cancer...Used to be false but is no longer false.

Ø Melanoma occurrence has been found to decrease with greater sun exposure...Used to be false but is no longer false.

Ø Sunscreens help prevent Melanoma...Used to be true but is no longer true.

The next thing you know we will be told that Bacon is Good for the Brain!

My dear readers, welcome to The Next Thing...

“Without a doubt, the brain is one of the most important organs in the human body. Special nutrients are needed for the brain to operate properly and to prevent degenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease, which affects one out of every ten Americans over 65. Thankfully, eating a healthy quantity of bacon can help your brain perform at its best and enhance your brainpower. Bacon is high in choline, a nutrient that has been shown to slow the deterioration of memory with time. According to a recent study conducted by the University of Eastern Finland, the use of choline in the creation of acetylcholine (a key neurotransmitter) may aid in the prevention of cognitive decline associated with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.”

There are some that say eating Bacon may be Bad for the Brain.

“Eating lots of bacon, hot dogs, cold cuts, salami and other processed meats may raise the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease”...

Are you confused because you have been putting all you faith in the Internet and here is the Internet telling you that Bacon Is Good for You and Bacon Is Bad for You. It may not be possible but I will now attempt to make it all of the above clear to you...

Bacon could be good for you but it could be bad for you. If you have any doubt about the prior sentence’s validity, we often go to the Internet because we have been trained to believe everything that we read on the Internet is Absolutely True.

My dear readers, my advice for you is:

Ø Seek out an answer on the Internet to whatever question you have at hand.

Ø When you find the answer to your question Do Not Read Any Further.

Ø If you do you do read further, you will find that the answer to your question that you just found, and you are so comfortable with, Is Not True.

Ø Why would you want to find out that what you know is the truth is not the truth?

If you think this Blog Posting is confusing to read, imagine how confusing it must have been to write this Blog Posting. A little sympathy for Fella would be greatly appreciated.

Ripping You Off In Plain Sight

According To Consumer Reports, Eggs From Chickens Raised With “No Hormones” Are Not Worth The Extra Money

The reason is, by law, chickens that produce eggs are NOT to be given Hormones.

That’s why eggs with a “No Hormones” claim on the package label are no different from eggs that don’t have the “No Hormones” claim.

Not Gonna Publish That One

I have been thinking about publishing a Blog Posting about problems with Tesla Battery Disposal. I am, however, known (known by me) for attempting to know what I am talking about before I talk about something. In doing my research about this subject, I came up with this video about Recycling of Tesla Batteries which was published by Tesla for the express purpose of preventing me from publishing a Blog Posting about Tesla Battery Disposal Problems.

Tesla has just breathed a sigh of relief because I have been prevented.

The link to Tesla’s Video is below. It will take you 10 minutes and 7 seconds to watch all of it. I found it enlightening. My only problem was the narrator talked too fast for my ears to keep up (my ears are known for having problems keeping up...or is it my brain that has the keeping up problem?). Turning on Closed Captioning helped.

Here is the video link: https://www.justgogreengroup.com/battery/tesla-recycling-batterys

Yea, I know you can go elsewhere on the Internet and find information that proves that Tesla is lying about everything in this video. My Dear Readers, that’s the best thing about the Internet...Or is it?

It’s COVID’s Fault!

Since 2020 we have been saying, “It’s COVID’s Fault!”

For example, here is my opinion of what COVID has done to the Hotel Industry...

Ø If you have not made a Hotel Reservation lately, you are in for a shock...A Price Hike Shock.

Ø I think the Hotel Industry has developed a COVID Hate for anyone who now dares to try and stay at their hotels because of the disloyalty those same people exhibited when they dared to not stay in their hotels during the Pandemic Shutdown that had us all scared to go to the grocery store much less travel anywhere out of our home towns.

Ø The major objective of the Hotel Industry at present is to make up for lost COVID Revenue when fewer of us were out and about.

Ø The first and most obvious example of their COVID Revenue Recapture is that they have raised all their room rates.

Ø Recently I stayed at a hotel that I had stayed at just before the COVID Shutdown and paid a room rate of $110.

Ø The room rate I paid this time was an even $100 More than that Pre- COVID Rate when the Hotel still liked me...Or was it my money they liked?

************

Porky Pig is visiting with me today and he just said, “That Ain’t All Folks”.

I recently also tried to sign up for a different hotel for a different trip and found out how much the Hotel Industry really does have it in for me...

Ø This hotel was trying to charge me $183 a night for a stay in their hotel in a small town.

Ø As I was getting over that shock I got a bigger jolt.

Ø The hotel said I was going to be charged for something they called “Taxes and Service Fee” which turned out to be more than the We Hate You Room Rate of $183 a Night!

************

This reminds me of a Stand-Up Comedian I once saw on the Johnny Carson Show who told this story...

Ø He started by asking the audience this question, “What is the term a farmer would use to describe what had happened if one of his bulls had had intercourse with one of his cows”.

Ø Someone in the audience shouted out the answer.

Ø The Comedian confirmed, “That’s right. The farmer would say the bull had serviced the cow”.

Ø The Comedian then said, “Now you know what the Telephone Company means when the say they have been Servicing You for the last 70 years”.

Did ya laugh?

************

I have also seen other companies I interact with that have started to find new ways to increase my cost for their services...

Ø Our HVAC Company.

Ø Our Dentist.

Ø Our Car Dealership.

True Heroes (Not Sports Figures) Deserve Our Respect No Matter How Long Ago They Performed Their Heroic Deeds (Revised, Shortened and Republished)

I have published this Blog Posting before but, since it is Memorial Day and the story is about the First World War, I have decided to repeat it. It is a great story and great stories ought to be repeated.

In 2008 my wife and I visited a small World War I cemetery in Flanders Field in Belgium. We were being shown around by a guide when we noticed that one grave stood out from the rest because it was covered with Flowers and Decorative Ribbons much more than other graves

We ask the guide about the decorations and she explained (in bullet point format)...

Ø This grave was so highly decorated because it was a new grave (in a cemetery for a war that ended more than 100 years ago).

Ø Farmers and construction workers are still uncovering human bodies.

Ø Whenever a body is recovered it is buried with a Full Formal Burial Ceremony.

Ø The people from the nearby towns show up in significant numbers to honor the newly discovered soldier’s body.

Ø Many arrive with flowers in hand.

The Flowers and Decorative Ribbons on this grave that stood out from the rest of the graves is the result of the homage paid to an unknown soldier who died a long time ago who was highly honored when he was recently buried in his new grave.

Some Say, “That Is So Complicated and Confusing It Must Be A Good Thing”. John McEnroe Says, “You Can’t Be Serious!?”

My Dear Readers, your attention, please. Don’t waste your time looking for the Funny Part of this one. I already looked and I did not find a chuckle. This is serious stuff. I won’t say I understand it all but there are more than enough Words of Caution and Confusion below to convince me that there are Big Problems for all of us in this Blog Posting...

(I did the underlining)

A typical Electric Vehicle Battery weighs one thousand pounds, about the size of a travel trunk. It contains twenty-five pounds of lithium, sixty pounds of nickel, 44 pounds of manganese, 30 pounds cobalt, 200 pounds of copper, and 400 pounds of aluminum, steel, and plastic. Inside are over 6,000 individual lithium-ion cells.

It should concern you that all those toxic components come from mining. For instance, to manufacture each EV auto battery, you must process 25,000 pounds of brine for the lithium, 30,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt, 5,000 pounds of ore for the nickel, and 25,000 pounds of ore for copper. All told, you dig up 500,000 pounds of the earth's crust for just - one - battery.

Sixty-eight percent of the world's cobalt, a significant part of a battery, comes from the Congo. Their mines have no pollution controls, and they employ children who die from handling this toxic material. Should we factor in these diseased kids as part of the cost of driving an electric car?

I'd like to leave you with these thoughts. California is building the largest battery in the world near San Francisco, and they intend to power it from solar panels and windmills. They claim this is the ultimate in being 'green,' but it is not. This construction project is creating an environmental disaster. Let me tell you why.

The main problem with solar arrays is the chemicals needed to process silicate into the silicon used in the panels. To make pure enough silicon requires processing it with hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrogen fluoride, trichloroethane, and acetone. In addition, they also need gallium, arsenide, copper-indium-galliumdiselenide, and cadmium-telluride, which also are highly toxic. Silicon dust is a hazard to the workers, and the panels cannot be recycled.

Windmills are the ultimate in embedded costs and environmental destruction. Each weighs 1688 tons (the equivalent of 23 houses) and contains 1300 tons of concrete, 295 tons of steel, 48 tons of iron, 24 tons of fiberglass, and the hard to extract rare earths neodymium, praseodymium, and dysprosium. Each blade weighs 81,000 pounds and will last 15 to 20 years, at which time it must be replaced. We cannot recycle used blades.

There may be a place for these technologies, but you must look beyond the myth of zero emissions. "Going Green" may sound like the Utopian ideal but when you look at the hidden and embedded costs realistically with an open mind, you can see that Going Green is more destructive to the Earth's environment than meets the eye, for sure.

A Challenge for My Dear Readers

The above picture is an Artist's Rendering of an EV Charging Station that a German company named Sortimo plans to build. They say it will be the world’s biggest EV fast-charging station with 144 charging ports.

Already the confusion starts...

The Information I have found and will present to you below differs greatly from Sortimo’s numbers above.

Ø Sortimo says their 144 charging ports will charge 4,000 cars a day.

Ø The information below says it will take 600 Charging Ports to do 2,000 cars a day.

 ------------

Ø Sortimo says 24 of their 144 Charging Ports will be Super Chargers with a capacity of 350 kilowatts.

Ø The information below talks about 50 kilowatt chargers but makes no reference to Super Chargers but Sortimo does say that Tesla’s current Super Chargers are 150 kilowatts.

------------

Ø Sortimo says their Charging Station could offer savings of 7.8 million gallons, of fuel.

Ø Sortimo does not say how many gallons of Fossil Fuel will be necessary to create the electricity to put into their 4,000 cars a day.

Remember batteries do not make electricity they only store electricity that had already been made by burning some kind of Fossil Fuel.

Would I be accused of being a Wise Ass if I said that the electricity to put into Sortimo’s Car Batteries Will Not Be Made By Other Batteries

************

Below are facts I got from the Internet. Here is your challenge...

Ø The Internet is very good at giving us Confusing if not Completely Opposite Explanations of Issues.

Ø If you have information that can disprove my found information below, use my blog’s Comments Feature to present those facts to your fellow readers of Foolishness...Or Is It?.

Ø We need the Truth, whether or not it is the "Truth" we often times so desperately we want to see.

If you are able, please help My Dear Readers and me to get to the Truth.

EV Charging Insanity

In order to match the 2,000 cars that a typical filling station can service in a busy 12 hours, an EV charging station would require 600, 50-watt chargers at an estimated cost of $24 million and a supply of 30 megawatts of power from the grid. That is enough to power 20,000 homes. No one likely thinks about the fact that it can take 30 minutes to 8 hours to recharge a vehicle between empty or just topping off. What are the drivers doing during that time?

Dr. Jay Lehr and Tom Harris | Jan 15, 2022

************

Many of the EV Charging Waiters who are waiting for 8 hours are going to need some place to sleep and, in some cases, Counseling. This will result in the beautiful pastoral scene in the Artist’s Rendering being littered with Pup Tents and Army Cots with Physiatrists holding iPads seated next to the cots ready to spring into action.

Since EV Charging Stations are proposed to be the replacement for Gasoline Filling Stations, you can be sure that there will be Hot Dogs Hamburgers, Nachos and such available for sale so the EV Charging Waiters can “enjoy” their wait. This is going to result in a significant increase in the Body Bulk and the Cholesterol Count of Americans all across the Fruited Plain but that’s fodder for another Blog Posting on another day.

Disinformation...Or was it?

We must be careful with these kinds of lists because there is so much Foolishness out there. For example, I looked up one of Einstein's most famous "quotes" and came up with this... “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” was traced by Einstein archivist Barbara Wolff to US writer Rita Mae Brown’s Sudden Death (1983)."

Eventually Einstein and his wisdom was accepted by all...Or was he and it?...

"right up to his death in 1955, he was targeted for deportation as a Soviet agent by FBI director J. Edgar Hoover."

Oh well, the list below is interesting but don't bet your life that some of this list of 25 are not disinformation or some such thing.

I just hope everybody is not kidding us about everything.

Are They All Dead Or Are They Just Never Was?

Did I just hear you say, “What the heck is Fella talking about now?” Hang on. Trust me. It will all make sense shortly...Or will it?

When I was young there were many girls in St. Anthony of Padua Grammar school with names like: Judy, Mary and Linda.

That was Then but we live in the Now. I bet, if I put on my Potted Plant Outfit and went back to St. Anthony and slid around my old school for a day, I would not find any Judy’s, Mary’s or Linda’s there.

I’m not really saying they are dead. It’s just that they never happened. The girl’s are still there but they were never named these names to begin with.

If you want to know what the Cool People are doing, where would you go looking? You say you don’t know. Of course, you know. Think about it for a moment...

Are you done thinking? Did you draw a blank? You disappoint me...again.

If you want to know about Cool, of course, you seek out Celebrities. They are all cool. Even those of them who are not Cool are way Cooler than we are Cool.

I Googled Celebrities with the most unique/uncommon names and I found what they are naming themselves. Remember they do name themselves. If their old fashioned parents made the mistake of naming any of them Judy or Mary or Linda, when they are about to blossom into a Celebrity they change their name to something Cool like these actual Celebrity Names below...

Neve, Daveigh, Rumer, Sela, Cote, Leighton, Evanna, Jodelle, Saoirse, Odette, Paget, Alona, Thea, Zooey, Avril, Emmy, Holland, Troian

Aren’t you glad you are mot a Celeb? If I were a Celeb and someone asked me what my name was, I would say, "I'll tell you if you promise not to tell anyone".

Would I kid u?

Lagniappe: Now you know how UnCool I am because not one of the Cool Names above is “Fella”.

Way back when, it used to be that you would walk in the store and fill a form out with what you wanted to buy. You would then pay for it and a clerk would get the product for you from the storage room at the back. There was no display of product.

This evolved to open shelving with product but offices in the middle with one way glass so you could be watched but you could not see who was watching you.

They then evolved to just straight open shelving and checkouts. This led to people just walking in and stealing liquor.

For Heaven’s Sake Don’t Think for a Second That I Am Criticizing My Grandchildren

My two youngest grandchildren are really smart but their problem is they are really young. All grandchildren start out that way. I am confident that one or the other of them will be President of the Good Ole USofA someday and the other will be the Vice President to the one or the other of them that is the President.

Now that I have covered myself so I won’t be accused of saying that my grandchildren aren’t smart, I want to tell you about a recent visit we enjoyed from these two future Presidents and/or Vice Presidents...

Ø They both slept on the same room.

Ø In that same room there was a Radio/Cassette Tape/CD Disk Combo Player.

Ø Being as young as they are they are curious.

Ø They started playing around with the player and found the CD that was inside.

Ø Because they are curious and young they asked their Father what the CD Disk was.

I guess I am behind the times. I was not aware that a CD was a thing of the past.

Time marches on.

Would I kid u?
