They Looked So Disappointed and Lonely I Felt Sorry For Them

Last night I decided I would like to see Democracy in Action. Of course, there is no better way to do that than to witness Rioting and Looting while it was actually happening.

I drove down to my city’s Financial District because I heard on the news that there were some windows there that had not yet been broken but it turned out that Democracy in Action had taken the night off.

When I arrived there were only 2 Rioters/Looters/Patriots there. They were practicing their window breaking technique swings. One was practicing with a Skate Board and the other was practicing with a Claw Hammer. They, however, did not seem to be very enthusiastic about what they were doing.

They appeared to be so listless I felt compelled to ask them what was the problem. They both looked at me with the saddest puppy dog looks you ever saw and almost in unison said, “Dude, the news media did not show up tonight and it just ain’t as much fun without them. Actually there were about 2,000 of us here practicing our swings and enthusiastically planning and choreographing the mayhem we were going to perform in front of the cameras but about 10 minutes ago, when they all realized the media was not going to show up tonight, they all went home to play video games”.

I actually got a kick out of their disappointment and, as I walked back to my car, I could not help but smile to myself.

As I walked past the Donut R Us Store I noticed that the policeman sitting at the outdoor table with a sign on it that read “Reserved for the Police Observer” was also smiling as he chewed his tasty treats.

Would I kid u?

Lagniappe: The chewing cop reminded me of a statue I saw years ago in an airport in Texas. It was a statue of a Texas Ranger. The inscription read, “One Riot. One Ranger”.

In the future we are going to see a statue of a Policeman with an inscription that will read, “One Riot. One Policeman Observer”.
